"Beat you again Mikey!" I whooped, raising my Wii remote into the air.
Mikey pouted and cuddled his unicorn toy. "You cheated!" he complained.
I rolled my eyes. "Mikey, I did not cheat at Mario Cart!"
"Did so!"
"Did not!"
"Did so!"
"Did not!"
"GERARD TELL HIM!" we both turned around to look at Gerard, who was stretched out on the sofa behind them, reading Twilight with a very strange expression on his face.
He looked up with mild interest when we called his name. "What?"
"Tell him he cheated Gerard!" Mikey whined.
Gerard sighed with irritation. "Mikey, can't you just accept that you lost fair and square like you do every time you play Mario Cart with Frank?"
Mikey stood up, lugging his unicorn by the horn and marched up the stairs, muttering the little amount of curse words he knew under his breath.
"Ten year olds…" Gerard muttered, shaking his head.
"Uh-huh." I took a few steps back and then sat on the couch, pushing Gerard's legs away and forcing him to sit up.
But Gerard didn't smile like he usually did when he saw me. He was frowning furiously and his eyes weren't entirely focused.
"Gerard?" I said.
"Yeah?" he replied after a short pause.
"Why are you reading Twilight for the third time?" I asked. "I thought we agreed it was stupid and that real vampires are much cooler."
It might just have been my imagination but Gerard seemed to flinch at the words "real vampires". He stood up and reached a fingerless-gloved hand towards me.
I took it, not the slightest bit worried when Gerard pulled me roughly to my feet. I kissed his cheek.
A slight smile curved up the corners of Gerard's lips but his eyes stayed unfocused.
"Frankie." he muttered, almost to himself.
I held his hand with both on mine and softly caressed it to my cheek. "Mm."
"Let's go outside."
"Ok." I agreed reluctantly because there were storm-clouds gathered in the sky, threatening to burst into a heavy thunderstorm. "Just let me get my rain-"
"Now Frankie." Gerard insisted, pulling me towards the door and still not letting go of my hand.
I became slightly suspicious. Gerard had never ever raised his voice at me before. What was going on?
Then Gerard sighed, stopping just outside the door or his house and stroked my hand with his thumb. "Sorry. I just… really want to go now." His big green eyes were back in focus and he was looking at me with real regret.
I nodded. It was fine. I trusted Gerard with all my heart and followed him fearlessly into the near darkness of the pavement, the dark clouds still hovering above us and blocking the sun while the streetlamps didn't think it was time to turn on yet.
"Where are we going Gee?" I asked, hurrying a little to keep up with his quick and confident stride.
"To the graveyard." he replied and I couldn't see his face but I was willing to bet he was smiling.
"The graveyard?" I stammered, my eyes wide with fear.
But Gerard didn't reply. He continued on his way, still not letting go of my hand, until we had reached the wrought iron gates of the cemetery. He pushed open the creaky gates and gestured for me to follow.
By now, there was a light drizzle coming down from the sky and in the distance, I could see that the street lamps had turned on. But none were near enough to the cemetery for me to see anything properly. So I relied solely on the feeling of skin and material that was Gerard's hand.
"Are you scared Frankie?" Gerard asked, as if reading my mind.
"A little." I confessed, giggling nervously.
He muttered something in reply but I must have misheard him because I could have sworn he had said "good."
Finally, Gerard stopped outside a mausoleum and he looked up at the sky, as if noticing the rain for the first time.
"Let's go inside, where it's dry." he said, placing a hand on the door.
"Gerard, are you crazy?" I gasped, pulling him back.
But he was surprisingly strong. Normally, if I tugged him hard, I could at least make him stumble but now, it was as if his feet were super-glued to the ground.
"Come on, stop being such a baby."
"Gee! Your suggesting we go inside a mausoleum in a thunderstorm, of course I'm scared!" I said, feeling hurt.
"We're going inside!"
And to my utter shock, horror and amazement, Gerard kicked open the mausoleum door and pulled me so hard, I nearly fell. Instead, I stumbled after him.
Once inside, he shoved me away and slammed the door shut.
Dazed, I fell onto my butt and just sat there, looking up in confusion at the boy I thought I knew.
Gerard's dark hair was dishevelled and some of it was falling into his eyes, which glinted dangerously and looked like he hadn't slept in a while. His smile was positively maniacal and his teeth were starting to look sharper and more dangerous than I remembered them. I convinced myself that it was simply because of the dim lighting.
Wait, lighting? I swallowed. Something behind me was emitting a faint glow but I wasn't about to turn around. I refused to take my eyes off Gerard and my body refused to let me move anyway.
"Great, we're finally alone." he muttered suddenly.
I was beginning to get a little more than just scared. I was downright terrified.
"A-alone?" I stammered, trying not to panic. Who the hell was this and what had he done with my sweet, artistic and totally not creepy Gerard?
"Yes, I thought it would be the right time to… tell you." Gerard kept smiling but closed his mouth. I squinted. It looked like his canine teeth jutted slightly over his bottom lip.
"Tell me what?" I asked.
"Tell you that I'm a vampire." he replied calmly.

Star Catcher, part 16
Present day (10:48 P.M.)
It had been a long day, and despite the fatigue and the aches on his body caused by nearly getting beaten into a pulp, Dean strolled out of the warm motel room and into the chilly night. Sam, meanwhile, stayed inside to watch TV and munch on the Vietnamese takeout, which tasted a bit weird but it was the only place that was still open and served a relatively warm meal.
Of course, Dean did not wander far as he simply settled for leaning on the wooden railings a few feet from the door. The railings were supposed to add a sort of rustic design to the shoddy motel, but all they ever achieved was to make the building loo

In the mirror is a face,
I don’t quite recognize
It has my face, my whiskey eyes,
It's lips are moving,
But they speak only lies
The trickster smiles at me mockingly,
Sending chills up and down my spine
Its eyes are soulless, cruel,
Quite unlike mine
I don't like what I see, so I turn away
A bloody hand grasps my shoulder,
And I scream and scream and scream
Unable to escape
It steps through the shimmery surface in my place,
Its diabolical laughter ringing in my ears
I'm not sure what I did to deserve this,
I cannot stop my tears
I alone can see it
For what it truly is:
A shadow of what I am to become
Not who I have been
I alone ca

The anger fades over time
even while I'm angry
the edges fade and break and crumble
the lot turns to a black sludge
it falls from my mind
fills up the hollow spaces
the empty pieces in my heart
the ventricles overflow, ooze
I have become a thing I hate.
